Pens – Habs Game 6: Un. Real.

May 11, 2010

And we are headed back to Pittsburgh, to play what the Habs and their fans hope will be the last game ever played at Mellon Arena. Interestingly enough, the Montreal Canadiens beat Pittsburgh in the first NHL game ever played at the Igloo. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, is hoping to clinch at home for their fans so we can all hear about how old Mellon Arena is for at least four more games.

If your heart was in trouble during this game, you’re going to need a Costco-sized pack of defibrillators for Game 7. The Habs aren’t going to take the two best teams in the East to seven games just to give up and come home to golf. The Penguins may be ready to repeat, and they are an effin good team, but the Habs are scrappy… I expect them to claw and scratch their way through the game and do their best to come out with the win. Balls out. (Not like Sami Salo.)

  • Welcome back, Jaroslav Spacek. GENIUS defensive plays and a goal to boot. Whatever the mysterious injury he has is, it seems to still be bothering him because he did look a little wobbly out there at times.
  • (On Melnick, Pierre McGuire was saying he can’t disclose Spatch’s injury because it wouldn’t be professional to do so. What the effing eff is it? Can’t just be vertigo… can it?)
  • For the millionth time, thank everything that Cammalleri chose Montreal over Toronto. We’ve got him locked up for quite a while, too.
  • I posted this on Twitter but for you boycotting non-twits: The reason Plekanec hasn’t been able to get anything going this series is because those two Penguins he’s always wearing are kind of heavy. Smart strategy by the Penguins, but you wonder… is it because they think shutting down the playmaker is more important than shutting down the Cammalleri or is it because they just can’t catch the wriggly little dude?
  • We are way overboard with PK Subban but how can we not be? The kid is the real deal. I think it’s a combination of his own smarts and skills and Guy Boucher’s coaching. He makes rookie mistakes, of course, but he commits to every play he makes and is getting pretty good at the ‘staying calm’ bit. According to Mike Boone, he led both teams in ice-time with 29:11, which is remarkable considering Bylsma multiple-shifted Crosby so much that  he even donned a mask and pads and played goal for a bit.
  • Man the hits AK46 and OB can dish out… *Boom!* *crumpled Penguin* More please… the rest of the guys should feel free to get in on that.
  • Also gotta love Cammelleri saying stuff like “nice pass” to AK46.
  • Gorges wore Gill’s A. You have no idea how happy that made me.
  • And Halak… they’re giving him problems, but he’s handling it.
  • The Habs need to stay the hell out of the sin bin, for Number 9’s sake.
  • MaxLap got compared to the Rocket. Yes.
  • My man Trayvis… If this were middle school I’d draw little hearts in my notebook and write ‘theactivestick Moen’ all over them.
  • In pink ink.
  • The Bruins fans are cheering for the Habs because they want a Montreal-Boston ECF. The Caps fans are cheering for Montreal because they hate the Penguins way more than they hate being upset by Montreal. The Sens fans who jumped the Habs ship years ago are secretly switching out their Sens car flags for Habs car flags (we won’t tell anyone). The rest of the league’s fans, minus Pittsburgh’s, duh, are cheering for the underdogs. The Leafs fans? Have decided to stay miserable and whine about the Habs winning all over the internet instead of turning the television off and going to a Jays game or something. I may have heard rumours that it’s relatively easy to get a ticket to one of those things.
  • Sorry guys, I had forgotten to edit my season postmortem for Saturday’s game, but luckily I remembered to prep it for posting between the first and second last night, and I won’t forget to mess around with it on Wednesday.
  • Get ready for another rollercoaster ride, Habs fans. I know it’s hard to believe that after the playoffs they’ve had that they won’t win this game, but remember that it’s way harder to believe Pittsburgh won’t crush them. May the team that wants it more win.

I’ve been drawing little pink hearts around everyone’s name and pictures ♥ Who needs to be in school for that?

One of the funnest things about this playoff run has been watching Leafs fans spit nails about how the Canadiens won’t roll over. I’ve been tickled pink listening to them moan. To hell with them…all of them. To paraphrase Stewy…their anguish sustains me.

    Nerds.

    But what. A. Game. Seriously.

    Win this thing for humankind.

Careful in prodding Leafs fans about Jays games… Lest we forget, the 1994 strike put the kibosh on the Expos forever. My father and I once got Expos first baseline tix on gamenight during the final season for $36/pair. Meanwhile, now they’re gone and we still haven’t won another Cup.

I STILL don’t understand how Cammy never gets mentioned for the captaincy. Help me out here. What aspect of a great captain does he NOT have?? On a side note: I think I’ve officially forgiven Max Laps for his pathetic attempt at a regular season. I’m more than impressed with his work these days.

Reader Smalrus is head of the Cammy For Captain Club. Trust me, the view is out there. I think he’d be awesome, but Gionta and Markov are my own top 2.

I’m slowly acceding to the Gio for captain camp. Not backing down from Cammy for Captain, but I would accept Gio if it was him. However, while I love Markov’s skill and ability (who doesn’t?) I just don’t know that he would be the best captain.

Then again, I’m not in the dressing room…

Please Habs, Oh please Habs, beat the Penguins!
Forgive me that since I am Panther fan (Hawkstoo) that I don’t like JM, but this team has the heart of a Lion.
Cammy is clutch, and Halak is lights out!

Go for it tonight and send the Pengies to summer golf!
