Caps-Habs Game 6: Jaro cordially invites you to Wednesday

April 26, 2010

You know how there are some guys, like Erik Cole (I typed Coke there without realizing it…), that we call Hab-Killers? And how there haven’t been any Habs we can call Anything-Killers in a while? Except that AK46 is a bit of a Sabre-Killer but who cares cause it’s the Sabres?

Now we have a legit Cap-Killer in Mike Cammalleri.

We also have legit playoff goaltending in Jaroslav Halak. For now. That is not under any circumstances to be taken as any kind of comment on my boy Carey.

We also have a Game 7 to watch on Wednesday, Habs fans. Can your heart take any more of this?

Remember the Boston series from two years ago when the Bruins solved the Habs PP and messed with Carey’s head and took the series to 7 games? And then the Habs crushed the Bruins decisively at home in Game 7 because they were just the better team? Let’s keep that in mind on Wednesday. There’s no reason the Habs can’t win the series after this but the realist in me wants to be prepared for Washington to win (and then go on to lose to Philly in 5 like the Habs did when their PP got exposed).

  • Some of those saves, man. My eyes were popping out of my head.
  • Caps PP is effectively slain.
  • Habs (or at least Halak) are in their heads. What the hell kind of shot total is 54-22 for a losing team?
  • That has Ovechkin, Semin, Backstrom and Green on it?
  • Cammalleri could have selfishly tried for a hat trick, but chances were better that Plekanec would score into that empty net so he passed to his buddy.
  • But Cammalleri got a million points on the night anyway.
  • Gorges, Gill, Gionta, Gomez.
  • PK’s playoff debut! He pretty much stapled a couple of guys to the bench himself and that assist… I know we overdo it with the PK-love, but what a game he had.
  • MaxLap wasn’t completely pukey and even scored a goal, although, two diving penalties in one game lolz.
  • Hamrlik’s minutes were properly managed after that delay-of-game penalty he took.
  • Bell Centre crowd seemed to be behaving reasonably enough given that they’re Canadiens fans. Didn’t detect any booing.
  • Carey bear-hugging Jaro after that game.
  • A few weeks ago I was making bets that Montreal wouldn’t get swept and now I’m making bets that they could win the series.

  • Those idiot refs gave Brian Gionta a diving penalty. That should tell you exactly what kind of refs they are. Gionta is perfect and he only hooks and trips. He does not dive.
  • Seriously, I know the Habs won, but it’s like the refs in the playoffs are getting progressively worse instead of better.
  • Bruins go on to Round 2. May the Pittsburgh Penguins eat them alive and spit their carcasses out in 4 games.
  • The Caps have been playing like shit for about 3/4 of this series and we’re still sitting here waiting for Game 7 to decide this.
  • Pouliot is already on holiday. Let’s trade him to the Leafs if he wants a long vacation every year.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but if the Penguins spit out the Bruins’ carcasses, it’s because the Canadiens get eliminated on Wednesday. If the Habs win, with the Devils and Sabres gone golfing, the Pens would be on the menu. The Bruins would then get the Flyers.

Otherwise, I’m stunned at what we saw tonight. No talk about defensemen doing good work in front of Halak. When you give up 50+ shots to guys like Ovie, Green, Semin, Backstrom, it’s all about the guy making the saves. We saw the stuff of legend tonight!

I’m sorry. My mind was so blown by Halak’s goaltending that I just completely forgot that he gave the Habs a chance to actually win the series ;).

Until about 10pm this evening the Habs had twice as many games to win to get to the next round as the Caps did.

      Thanks, Halak.

And the Habs D blocked more shots than Varlamov even faced. It’s like having three goalies on the ice ;D

Ever see in warmup? Price and Gorges go to the corner and Price shoots pucks at Gorges and he tries to stop them like a goalie. It’s hilarious, but he’s actually warming up his shot blocking in an ingenious manner.

You need to accept the possibility that your team can win this series. If that happens, holy shit! It will be the upset of the decade.

I did not watch this game because I was having a SPECTACULAR dinner in Tribeca. But the highlights looked pretty solid.

That’s because the highlights didn’t feature any refs.

I’ll probably visit again in the fall. Times Square is my happy place (really).
