Things that aren’t fair…

April 11, 2010

1. The New York Rangers battled hard over the last couple of weeks to try and make the playoffs, even though they’ve been mediocre all season, and it came down to a fucking shootout. I hate to say it but they may have deserved a trip to the postseason more than my Habs did.

2. The Vancouver Canucks are facing the LA Kings and therefore will not get absolutely murdered in the first round by the Detroit Red Wings. This may keep me up at night.

3. Tim Thomas now has more fights under his belt than Maxim Lapierre.

4. The Toronto Maple Leafs have played a huge part in the Habs making the playoffs this year. No, seriously.

5. Glen Metropolit will not get a chance to wear the Montreal Canadiens sweater during the playoffs. In my mind, he exemplifies everything I think that sweater should represent: He works hard, he’s always got a positive attitude on and off the ice, he bring his A-game to every game (even though he knows his A-game is a D-game in the NHL), he’s persevered despite the fact that odds have been ridiculously stacked against him, and he ain’t no coward. He’s the exact opposite of MaxLap.

6. As the song goes, sometimes, love just ain’t enough. Sometimes we have to do really difficult, shitty, shitty, things even though we don’t want to, because they’re the right thing to do for everybody involved.

7. We all know that Pierre Gauthier and Jacques Martin are hopelessly, hopelessly wrong for this team and we can’t do anything about it. Not a damned thing.

8. One of Carey or Jaro will not be here next season, but J-fucking-Mart will.

9. Jaro has played like shit since his back-to-back shutouts but nobody will acknowledge it. Seriously. Replay all the goals from the last three games. Check out his save percentage over the last three games. He… has not been clutch.I’m not saying I’m worried or anything but it’s annoying how we’re cool with this but not with Carey playing even a tiny bit badly.

10. Phoenix’s Cinderella run is going to get cut short. They deserve at least a shot at the conference finals but they will not get past Detroit.

Rant! Last game of the season so may as well.

About Jaro: I’m not cool with it, my brother is not cool with it. (He’s actually super pissed off about it). They say he was tired. TIRED?! He barely faced 20 shots when it was tied! No one listens to me when I warn people about certain players… (Re: Bs will regreat that Thomas contract as Rask is awesome, Leclaire sucks Sens should have just signed Elliott and Brodeur, Jay Bouwmeester is softer than tissue, Glen Metropolit is awesome, etc). He is not a big game goalie. The big game goalie was sitting on the bench along with Rhino and Sergei (who was sitting on another bench in the pressbox).

About the Rags: They kind of deserve what they got for not giving Lundqvist any backup, and for blowing chunks most of the year (even moreso than the Habs at times). I’m thinking Sather is finally gone. Probably Torts too.

About Metro: Should have been the Masterton nominee. (Or Rhino, ’cause I mean it can’t be fun playing hockey/trying to get your career on track while knowing that next phone call might tell you your mom finally died of cancer). Metro grew up not knowing who his real dad is on the wrong side of Toronto where hockey was the only thing to keep him out of trouble through government leagues and used skates, unlike his half brother who is right now in jail for kidnapping/murder/various other charges. A small guy who literally traveled the world to play. A small guy who literally carried the Bruins on his back when their top centers got injured. A fan favourite in Philly who’s fans hated the fact he was waived for Briere’s fat contract. A guy who knows how to score goals by playing simple hockey. I have no idea why Jaro was picked for it. (For what? Following a normal career path when you’re a 5’11” 175lb average goaltender?) Then again, I do, as I found out the media select the nominee…why don’t they just pick the captain too! It would have been nice to give Metro that nod even if he had no chance of winning it. (Should and probably will go to Theodore because of what that man has gone through this year with the death of his son).

About the Leafs: Fuck the Leafs. BOOOOOO! Should have won that game…

I was doing backflips when he was picked up on waivers. I MISS HIM! 😦

    1. Their record at home did them in. Don’t win at TWMFA, don’t go to the playoffs. They need top scoring beyond Gaborik if they want to go to the next level. This is the difference between a team like the Rangers and, say, the Canucks who dizzominated at Canada Hockey (GM) Place.

    2. If anything, the Canucks will be cocky. They could be in for a nasty shock if Lolongo doesn’t play up to snuff.

    3. I don’t like Lapierre. Sorry.

    4. Meh.

    5. I bet he’d make a fine coach. No, seriously.

    6. What? Email me.

    7. All you can do is wait.

    8. Better to have too much goaltending than be from Philadelphia.

    9. Whatevs.

    10. God, I hope they do humanity a favour and clip the Wings.

      3. Nobody likes Maxim Lapierre except the Bell Centre Terrorists, as Number31 calls them.

      6. I will email you as soon as I am done moping and punching stuff.

    Carey 😦

I’m sleeping in his jersey tonight.

As I will be until we’re eliminated from the playoffs.

    1. A garbage organization to put it bluntly.
    2. The Canucks have all the pieces in place for a deep run.
    3. Do you want someone coming into your home w/o an invite? Thomas did the right thing.
    4. Leafs and their fans are really really sad.
    5. Metropolit is a stud and we miss him here in Boston.
    6. Like cutting taxes in Massachusetts. It’s the right thing to do for everybody involved.
    7. No comment.
    8. Carey Price needs to get out of Montreal. I’ve never seen an athlete get treated as poorly as he has by the Habs fans.
    9. See # 8.
    10. They have to earn it. The Red Wings don’t care about feel good stories.

    Predictions for rd 1:

    Wash in 3
    Pitt in 6
    Bos in 6
    Jersey in 5

    Colo in 7
    Chi in 4
    Det in 7
    Van in 6

Precious. Absolutely. Especially points numbers 8 and 9. Couldn’t say it better myself.

And poor Ryan “the Big Sexy”, don’t understand him being thrown under the bus like that… both by Martin and some so-called fans.

    Keep on writing, please.

    1. What DKatzism said. One of the “worst” home teams in the NHL.

    2. Don’t discount this Kings team. It’s frisky and Vancouver is just ripe to be knocked out. Many writers are calling for Henrik to win the Hart Trophy, but Luongo has been kinda, sorta crapping the bed for the past month. Call it a gut feeling, but I think that they’re soft.

    3. Bwahahahaha!

    4. Where do we begin? That they overpaid for Komi? That we went to OT with them five times (including Saturday) and managed at least three points in games we didn’t deserve?

    5. After reading everything I have about Metro, I feel that he embodies everything that’s right about sport (and hockey in particular). He got out of Regent Park, one of the worst housing projects in the country and is now a multimillionaire. It’s terrible that was hurt for the final two weeks of the season. And that he’s trying to come back now, for the first round less than two weeks after the injury means he has balls the size of grapefruits. We need more of the Metros, the Travis “I’m only missing one game after almost losing my eye” Moens, the Mattieu “AHL be damned, I’m making the NHL if it kills me” Darches and Josh “Undrafted my ass” Gorges on this team and less of the entitled asshats that have no idea what it means to where that sweater.

    6. I know I was drunk on Saturday, but this is what I think it is, right? Something we talked about when a certain friend of mine was passed out?

    7. Grinding my teeth in anger.

    8. Nor will Guy Boucher.

    9. He let in two goals to Christian Hanson! Christian “I’ve only scored one goal all fucking season” Hanson. Jaro was beyond soft on Saturday night. But he was a hero against Philly and Buffalo the week before.

    10. Throw the Snake!
