10 possible reasons why Bob Gainey stepped down

February 8, 2010

1. He couldn’t figure out how to block Allan Walsh from BBM-ing him seven million times a day.

2. He realized he isn’t French Canadian.

3. He’s planning an on-ice comeback with the national hockey team of the United Arab Emirates.

4. He lost a bet with Alex Kovalev.

5. He was offended when someone used his name in the same sentence as Mike Milbury’s.

6. All the fighting between Price and Markov was tearing him apart.

7. Listening to J-Mart speak kept putting him to sleep.

8. He’s going into business with Jim Ballsilie.

9. He’s embarking on a career in gangsta rap.

10. He woke up with a horse head in his bed signed “Pierre McGuire.”

In all seriousness, while it was time for him to step down, it makes me really sad. Say what you want about the Bob Gainey era, he’ll always be one of my favourite Habs, ever, and I think he did a stellar job and handled this mess of a city with class.

I think if he teamed up with Jimmie Balls they could break Bettman and get a team moved to Canada.

Bettman: “Well, Mr. Gainey, it’s just not the right time – ”
    Gainey: *stare*
Bettman: “uh, I mean er uh, we need to stabilize our American teams..”
    Gainey: *stare*
Bettman: “Take whatever you want! Just stop looking into my soul! I’ll fire Chris Lee too!”
