Postgame 17: Please fill in the blanks

November 8, 2009

Ugh. Goalie Controversy, much?

By all accounts, this game was not promising. Price wasn’t great (I was kind of dreading that after all the praise we showered upon him), the Habs D wasn’t great, the O wasn’t great and the future looks… well, not great. Please fill in the blanks, as I was unable to see this game:

Game 17 Gionta love:

Andrei Markov:

Goalie Guessing Game:

Chris Higgins Career watch:

Gui and Max finally benched:

Bonus multiple choice question:

Halak’s agent:

a) Was a little out of line, but whatevs, no harm done.
b) Has created a dressing room problem.
c) Should be fired.
d) Doesn’t need to be fired, but needs a talking-to by his client.

The answer to the Halak agent question is b and d.

Higgins watch: He was good last night. The first goal of the season he scored has made all the difference in the world. Jesus wasn’t going to beat Kiprusoff last night, so meh.

I have discovered cheap airline tickets. If you can discover where Chris lives, I’m in business.

The agent could be in the wrong, or Halak could be in the wrong. It all depends if Halak knew about what his agent was doing or not. Remember the agent’s job is to do what his client tells him as long as its not illegal. The agent is supposed to represent the client.

I hope the agent did this on his own and he’s the fucktard. But it could be Halak too.

We just don’t know what happened behind closed doors and we wont either.

While it’s true that we won’t know what happened behind closed doors, I have a hard time believing that as soon as the game was over, Halak scuttled into the dressing room, grabbed his Blackberry and BBM-ed Walsh to publicly post unflattering (but partially true) stats about another player.

Or that before the game, Halak was like, okay, look, if Price keeps losing, you have to publicly point out how shit he is.

You never know, Halak may have been putting some “What am I paying you for?” pressure on Walsh, but I am sure as shit Halak knows better than to have his rep antagonize the coach and GM of the team that employs him in public.

For Halak to want his agent to do more to solidify his role on Montreal (or any team) is reasonable. For his agent to go to management privately and say, “my client is the best goalie for this team and here’s why…” would have also been reasonable.

But for Walsh to post something like that in a very public forum was not reasonable, and I really, really doubt that Halak requested or condoned his actions.
