Postgame 14: Extremely entertaining and even more troubling

November 1, 2009

Note to Habs fans: It is not a good idea to sing the Goodbye song unless there are ten seconds left in the game and the Habs are up by at least nine goals, and even then you’re flirting with some really bad karma.

Things that teams with a chance to make the playoffs don’t do:
-Bail on the goalie
-Turnovers in the neutral zone
-Take 89 stupid and unnecessary minor penalties every game
-Turnovers in the offensive zone
-Suck Toskala balls on the PP
-Turnovers in the defensive zone
-Suicide passes à la Spacek
-Turnovers for dessert
-Give away points all over the Eastern Conference and/or the division
-Turnovers for breakfast
-Lack Markov
-Turnovers as a late-night snack
-Play like the Habs did this game

Things that really pissed me off:
-Mike Komisarek had an excellent game, by Mike Komisarek standards.
-Grabovski. Just in general.
-The Leafs scored the first goal.
-Mike Cammalleri got punched in the face and the Leafs went on the PP.
-The Habs could have, and should have, put this to bed in regulation. What is this, Ottawa?
-Despite a few bright spots, the Habs did not play well.
-The Colton Orr non-call(s).
-I’m worried they might take AK46 out behind the barn and shoot him.
-If that other Swedish Monster kid Leafs fans won’t shut up about were in goal, the Habs would have lost that game playing like that.
-Seven wins. Only one of them was in regulation.
-A lot of other stuff at the time but I seem to have forgotten them this morning.

Things I liked:
-Toskala made Metropolit look like Sidney Crosby and Gill look like Markov.
-Latendresse woke up. Latendresse had a good game. Latendresse scored!
-The non-calls were more than made up for when therangersfan pointed out that the Latendresse garbage goal looked totally offside. I don’t know for sure but I’m not too broken up about it.
-Chips and Moen played really well.
-Some of the saves Halak made leads me to believe that we’re calling the wrong kid ‘Jesus.’
-That awesome defensive play/sequence on the PK with Paul Mara and Halak.

Game 14 Gionta love: He gets an A for effort, even though on all those efforts the execution didn’t go so well.

Andrei Markov: Say it with me…

Goalie Guessing Game: Does it matter? Whoever you put behind these monkeys is going to be a victim of their turnovers, gaffes and terrible defensive play. Halak did some spectacular things last night. Price, by some accounts (I didn’t see the game) did a few spectacular things the night before. They’re both capable of phenomenal things but seriously the rest of the team needs to treat the goalies better.

Chris Higgins Career Watch: No news to report, as NYR was off tonight. The Bruins are in NYC tomorrow but it remains to be seen whether Higgy’s mysterious “lower-body injury” is better, and whether he has been cured of the suck yet.

The Goodbye song should be banned until a Game 7 of a playoff series blowout.

Things that teams with a chance to make the playoffs don’t do: Play like the anti-Pittsburgh

Things that really pissed me off: Habs were making Toskala look good. Except for those Metro/Gill/Hammer-Gomez goals.

Things I liked: Ron Wilson’s face going from normal, to pink, to bright red.

Gionta love: The barberpole (which was too big for him) made him look like an adorable, ankle biting, child. Awwwwww~

    Andrei Markov: ;o;

Goalie Guessing Game: Having a Price/Halak tandem is waaaaaay better than having Leighton, Lalime, or McElhinney waiting on the wings. Too bad for the trolls.

I agree on all points except how do we get our crowd to stop singing the Goodbye song at the most inopportune and obnoxious moments?

Perhaps we can suggest they channel their energy into learning how to pronounce “Vesa”?

Too much beer. The “Vesa” chant would be too hard. Maybe someone can get a “maaaan purse” chant going though.

    Couple things i disagree with

Being -3 is an excellent game? Komisarek was bad last night, don’t let the CBC leaf homer announcers fool you.

Giving away points to the Leafs isn’t a bad thing. They aren’t making the playoffs. They higher they finish the better for Boston’s pick.

AK46 didn’t get many minutes, but i thought he was good when on the ice.

We just need to tread water, keep getting points til Markov comes back. Remember that Pittsburgh looked like a non-playoff team without Gonchar last year. Markov is better than Gonchar and our little three aren’t as good as Crosby, Malkin, etc… so I think if we can stay 10th or so; we’ll be allright.

If the Monster was in net, sure Metro’s goal doesn’t go in… but that changes the whole game… The Leafs also don’t pull the goalie and score a 4th goal late…. I don’t think its that certain. Aside from that one goal Toskala wasn’t that bad last night.

As for sucking on the PP… sure we didn’t score any PP goals, but Gill and Hamrliks goals both came seconds after the Penalties expired and came out of the PP, even if they technically aren’t PP goals.

    I also said I didn’t want a PhD-level treatise on why I’m wrong.

You said you wanted to be a writer…. you realize that people might disagree with your opinions.

I didn’t say you were wrong, I said i disagreed.

    Its all opinion….

I can see why you didn’t want this leaked all over broads, Laura.

Anyway, another good read. Regarding our 7 wins with only one being in regulation, I see it as a double-edged sword of sorts. Does that mean we’re brutal in regulaion or completely awesome in OT/SO?

The way I look at it depends on how much self-consoling I need 😉

If my comments came across as condescending that was not my intention.

Specifically the Komisarek stuff, I was joking about the CBC announcers…. anyone who watched the Hockey Night in Toronto broadcast would have heard Craig Simpson describing how Komisarek was having a great game and was calm and controlled with the puck. I’m not sure what game the Toronto Homers were watching, but I’m sure it wasn’t the same one I was watching.

Craig Simpson also had the gall to say the Montreal goals were “Bad Luck for the Leafs” just moments before describing the pinball shot that tied the game in the dying moments of the Habs game as a “reward for the great work of Lee Stempniak and Tomas Kaberle.”

I was only joking about CBC’s announcer homerism and not trying to take a shot at anarmandaleb…. If some took that the wrong way, I apologize.

    • November 2, 2009 8:22 pm

Who the hell is Anarmanalemb? That’s an interesting name. Welsh?

Also I just found out Pierre McGuire and theactivestick share a birthday. Hahahahahaha

Beaker, you are naturally condescending. You seem totally oblivious to this whenever you get called out for being a complete douche.

Stick to the forums to feed your need to incessantly argue every topic that sees the light of day.

  9. November 2, 2009 10:44 pm

    pot meet kettle….

how bout you don’t hide behind a new name Frank? How bout you tell me who you are if you want to call me out….

I apologized for what was said…. how bout you stop being a complete douche about this?

    • November 2, 2009 10:58 pm

Frank, why don’t you bring this somewhere else… I refuse to argue any more with you here… thats not what the blogger wants…. and I’m done replying to you now.

I think we should both restrict discussions here to being about hockey.

Can we all calm the fuck down?

My blog is a place of peace. Don’t make me get all People’s Republic on your posts, people.
